SEO for pest control companies

SEO for pest control companies that gets you found the moment the problem starts — with licence details Google and customers can check.

Pest control searches come in two speeds. Urgent ones — “wasp nest removal near me”, “exterminator [city]”, “bed bug treatment” — are made on a phone and decided in minutes. Planned ones — a termite inspection before buying, a quarterly plan, a contract for a food business — are researched over days. Pest control SEO is the work that keeps you in front of both: a page for every pest and service you want more of, a Google Business Profile that follows Google’s rules, your licence and business name the same everywhere, structured data that carries your credentials, and reviews earned the right way. It is the part of pest control marketing that keeps working after an ad stops. We do it for exterminators in the US, pest controllers in the UK, pest control firms in Canada and pest and termite specialists in Australia, and we report from your own data.

The short answer

What is pest control SEO?

Pest control SEO is the work that gets an exterminator or pest control company found on Google — in the map results, the ordinary results and AI answers — by the households, businesses and property managers you want as customers. It covers your Google Business Profile, a page for each pest and service, area pages with real substance, structured data that says what you are and carries your licence, your business name and licence shown consistently, and a steady flow of genuine reviews.

The top pages on SEO for pest control cover map rankings, NAP consistency, service pages, city pages, blog content and AI search. Those are the foundations. What none of them deal with is that pest control is licensed and the rules on advertising reach your website, that some of the most common pest control wording is banned in places, that home sales and commercial contracts are searched differently, and that the words people search with change from country to country. For the trade-wide basics — area pages that are not doorway pages, seasonal planning and the review routine — see SEO for contractors. This page is about what is specific to pest control.

Keywords

Which searches bring pest control customers?

Pest control searches split by pest, urgency, property type and country. A rodent call-out and a termite contract target different people, so a good plan starts with the searches closest to the work you want.
Search typeExampleWhat wins it
Urgent localexterminator near me, pest control [town], wasp nest removal [town]A complete profile, real service areas, a working call button and an honest response time
Pest by pestrat removal, bed bug treatment, termite treatment, mice in the loftOne page per pest, with signs, method, visits and a from-price
Plans and preventionquarterly pest control, mosquito treatment, termite barrierPlan pages with what is included and the guarantee terms
Home salesWDI inspection, termite letter (US); pre-purchase pest inspection (AU)A page for agents and buyers with turnaround times and a sample report
Commercialcommercial pest control [city], restaurant pest control, pest control contractSector pages, visit schedules and the paperwork you provide
Country wordsexterminator (US, CA); pest controller (UK); exterminateur (Québec); termite inspection, pest inspection (AU)Pages written in the words and spellings used where you work
Pest pages

Why are pest pages a pest control company’s best SEO asset?

Because they match the way people search. Someone who finds droppings in a kitchen searches for mice, not for “pest control services”. A page for each pest, with the signs to look for, how you treat it locally, how many visits it usually takes, a from-price and real job photos, answers that search and proves you do the work. Most sites we reviewed listed pests as icons on the home page and little else.

Pest pressure is also local and seasonal, which gives every page something genuine to say: scorpions in desert cities, termite swarms in the Florida spring, wasps in late summer and rodents moving indoors in autumn in the UK, carpenter ants in May and mice in October in much of Canada. We plan pest pages and seasonal updates around your region, and use your jobs to give area pages real substance, which keeps them from being doorway pages.

Licence and business name

Why should a pest control licence and business name match everywhere?

Because customers check it, regulators expect it, and search engines compare it. Arizona expects the business name and licence number on advertisements, Texas the business name exactly as licensed, and Queensland the QBCC licence name and number on termite ads. In the UK, your company number, Level 2 or CRRU-approved certification and membership numbers do the job a licence number does elsewhere.

We put the same name and number on your website, in your structured data, on your Google Business Profile where there is a place for it, and on the directories you use. In our review only 2 of 60 US sites showed a clearly labelled licence number, 5 of 59 in Canada showed one, and 53 of 69 Australian home pages showed none — so getting this right is an easy way to stand out. If you also run Google Local Services Ads, check Google’s current licence and insurance requirements for your area.

Google Business Profile

How should a pest control company set up its Google Business Profile?

Following Google’s guidelines, which catch pest firms out in three places. The name must be your real business name — adding “Pest Control Leeds” or “Best Exterminator Phoenix” breaks the rules and risks suspension. The address depends on whether customers visit you: a firm that goes to the customer and has no office where customers are received should hide the address and list service areas. And a profile or website for each city where you have no real office is not a shortcut; we saw networks of near-identical city sites in our review, and they look like lead generation rather than a local firm.

Choose the primary category that matches most of your work, such as pest control service, and add secondary categories only for services you really offer. Post jobs and seasonal notices with photos, so the profile looks active when people compare firms. For how far your service areas should reach, see SEO for contractors.

Commercial and property search

How does SEO work for commercial and property pest control?

Businesses, landlords and home buyers search less often but check more. Your site has to rank for the sector and then answer the paperwork questions without a phone call.
Sector pagesRestaurants, food production, healthcare, offices, warehouses — each with what you inspect, how often and what the client receives.
Reports and auditsService reports ready for an inspection or audit, and help with HACCP or BRC where you offer it — described, not overpromised.
Landlords and multi-unitPaths for property managers, strata and tenants, with prep sheets and how you handle shared buildings.
Home salesTermite letters and WDI reports in the US, AS 4349.3 pre-purchase reports in Australia, with turnaround times for agents.
Credentials in one placeLicences, insurance and BS EN 16636 or CEPA status where held, with register links.

Structured data

What structured data should a pest control website use?

Schema.org has no pest control type, so we use HomeAndConstructionBusiness or LocalBusiness and fill in the details that make your firm checkable. The top-ranking pest control SEO pages we read named LocalBusiness at most and said nothing about credentials. For other trades, see the table on SEO for contractors.
PropertyWhat it tells Google
@typeHomeAndConstructionBusiness or LocalBusiness, with a description that says pest control
hasCredentialYour licence, registration or certification number with the issuing body — the same number shown on the page
legalName and nameYour business name exactly as licensed, and your trading name if different
address and areaServedYour real office or service areas, matching your Google profile
knowsLanguageThe languages you work in, such as French in Québec or Spanish in many US cities
hasOfferCatalogThe pests and services you treat, matching your pest and plan pages
review markupLeave it off your own business page: Google’s review snippet rules do not show stars for reviews a local business publishes about itself
Reviews and claims

What are the rules on pest control reviews and claims?

Ask every customer after the job, never buy reviews, and never fake them — Google’s own policies prohibit incentives and fake engagement. In the US, the FTC’s rule on consumer reviews bans fake reviews, buying positive reviews and suppressing negative ones. In the UK, the CMA treats fake and concealed incentivised reviews as unlawful. In Canada, the Competition Bureau warns that reviews by staff or owners that hide the connection can breach the Competition Act. In Australia, the ACCC bans fake, selectively edited and undisclosed-incentive reviews.

Claims follow the same logic, with one extra trap. “#1”, “100% effective” and “permanent” need evidence, and words such as “safe”, “non-toxic” and “organic” are banned in pest control advertising in Texas and California and risky under the CAP Code, the Pest Control Products Act and APVMA rules. Review counts that disagree across a site, which we saw in all four countries, also undermine trust. We write specific, provable claims instead — years trading from your founding date, the guarantee with its terms, the award with its year — and keep review figures sourced and dated.

FAQ

Questions we get asked

How long does pest control SEO take to work?
Profile and technical fixes can show within weeks; new pest and area pages usually take a few months to build momentum, depending on competition where you work. Nobody can honestly guarantee rankings — the audit tells you where you start.
How much does pest control SEO cost?
It depends on how many areas, pests and services you want to target and how competitive they are. We quote after the audit, so you know exactly what is included before you commit.
What is the difference between this and contractor SEO?
Our contractor SEO page covers what every home-service trade shares: area pages, seasons and schema by trade. Pest control SEO adds what pest firms need on top: pest pages, licence and business name everywhere, wording rules, commercial and home-sale searches, and country-specific wording.
Should we create a page for every town we cover?
Only for places you really work, with real jobs and response times to show there. Pages that repeat the same text with a new town name are what Google calls doorway pages, and so are networks of near-identical city sites.
Is SEO enough, or do we need other pest control marketing?
SEO is the part that keeps working, but urgent pest searches also show ads and map results. We focus on search and your website; if you run ads, we make sure the pages they send people to are fast, accurate and consistent with your licence and claims.
Will pest control SEO help with AI search answers?
Yes. The same foundations — consistent business and licence details, clear pest and service pages and genuine reviews — are what AI assistants rely on. See AI search optimization.
Do we need a new website for pest control SEO?
Not always. If your current site is fast and easy to edit, we work with it. If it holds you back, see pest control website design.
