Odoo project rescue: fix a failed Odoo implementation.

If your Odoo project has missed date after date, you are not alone — and it is rarely because Odoo cannot do the job. We review where it stands, keep what is sound, rebuild what is not, and give you a new go-live date in writing. Then we host and support it, so it stays fixed.
Signs you need a rescue
  • Go-live keeps movingDates slip with no clear reason
  • Workarounds everywhereTeams back on spreadsheets
  • Custom code nobody ownsModules break on every update
  • Slow or unstableHosting that no one is watching
The health check

What does an Odoo health check look at?

The health check is a structured review of everything that makes up your Odoo system, not just the screens people complain about. Our engineers work on a copy of your database, so nothing changes on your live system while we look.

  • Configuration. Company settings, taxes, chart of accounts, warehouses and routes, access rights — set up correctly, or worked around?
  • Custom modules. Which Odoo version they target, whether they override standard behavior safely, whether they are under version control, and what breaks if they are removed.
  • Data. Duplicate contacts and products, unreconciled bank lines, stock quantities that do not match the warehouse, opening balances that never tied out.
  • Automation and background jobs. Scheduled actions that fail silently, stuck email queues, integrations that drop orders.
  • Hosting. Odoo and PostgreSQL versions, server sizing, worker settings, backups, security updates and logs.
  • People. Which teams actually use Odoo, and where they have gone back to spreadsheets — and why.
How a rescue works

How does an Odoo project rescue work?

Honest review first. Then a plan with a date.
01Health checkWe review your database, configuration, custom modules and hosting.
02Plain reportWhat to keep, what to fix, what to rebuild — and why.
03Agreed planA fixed scope and a guaranteed new go-live date.
04Rebuild & go liveFixed, tested, migrated and running on a secure server.
What we usually fix

Why do Odoo projects stall?

The causes are usually the same few, and most of them are about process rather than software. Our article on why Odoo projects stall goes deeper.
Unclear scopeNo written blueprint, so every week brings new surprises. We write one and get it signed off.
Over-customizationCustom code where standard Odoo would do. We remove what is not needed.
Messy dataDuplicates and broken balances. We clean and re-import with checks.
Weak hostingSlow, unpatched or unbacked-up servers. We move you to a hardened private server.
No trainingPeople never learned the new way of working. We train each role on its own tasks.
No ownershipToo many parties, nobody accountable. One team owns it from here.
The decision

Keep, fix or rebuild: how do we decide?

Our report gives a recommendation for each part of the system, with the reason in plain words. You decide; we never rebuild what can be saved just to start fresh.
What we findUsual recommendationWhy
Sound configuration with gapsKeep and completeMost of the work is done; finishing it is the fastest path
Custom code duplicating standard OdooRemoveLess code to maintain and port at every upgrade
Custom code with real business valueFix and documentKeep the advantage, lose the fragility
Data that never reconciledClean and re-importWrong balances undermine trust in every report
Version no longer supported by OdooUpgrade as part of the planStaying put only makes the next move bigger
Structure that fights how you workRebuild that areaSometimes a clean rebuild is faster than repair
Getting started

What do we need from you to start?

Less than most people expect. To begin the health check we need:

  • Administrator access to your Odoo database, or a recent backup of it.
  • The source code of any custom modules — ideally the repository, with its history.
  • Any blueprint, scope document or contract from the original project, if you have one.
  • A short list of what is not working, in your team’s own words.
  • An hour each with two or three key users who use the system every day.

If your previous partner still holds the code or the server, we can help you ask for a proper handover.

FAQ

Questions we get asked

Will you tell us if the old work should be thrown away?
Yes. Our report says plainly what is worth keeping. Often much of the configuration can be saved; sometimes a clean rebuild is faster and cheaper.
Do we need our previous partner’s cooperation?
It helps, but it is not essential. We need admin access to your database and, ideally, the source code of any custom modules.
Can we keep using Odoo during the rescue?
Yes. We review and rebuild on a copy of your system while your team carries on working. Fixes move to the live system in planned releases, and any larger switch happens at an agreed quiet point.
How long does the health check take?
It depends on the size of the system and how much custom code there is. We agree the timing and the cost of the health check with you before we start, so there are no surprises.
Can you rescue a project on Odoo Online or Odoo.sh?
Yes. We can work where it is, or move it to a private server if that suits you better. See private Odoo hosting.
What if we are stuck on an old Odoo version?
Then an upgrade is usually part of the rescue plan. We port the custom modules worth keeping and move your data to a supported version — see Odoo migration and upgrades.
Is the new date guaranteed?
Yes. Once we agree the rescue scope, the go-live date is covered by our go-live guarantee.
