SEO for cleaning companies

SEO for cleaning companies that gets you found for the cleans you want — with proof Google and customers can check.

Cleaning searches are local and specific. Someone moving out searches “end of tenancy cleaning [town]” or “bond cleaning [suburb]” with a deadline; someone tired of weekends spent cleaning searches “house cleaning near me” or “maid service [city]”; an office manager searches “commercial cleaning [city]” and compares three firms. Cleaning company SEO is the work that keeps you in front of all three: a page for every service and area you want more of, a Google Business Profile that follows Google’s rules, your business details the same everywhere, structured data that carries your registration, and reviews earned the right way. We do SEO for cleaning businesses — maid services and janitorial firms in the US, domestic and commercial cleaners in the UK, cleaning companies in Canada and house, bond and commercial cleaners in Australia — and we report from your own data.

The short answer

What is cleaning company SEO?

Cleaning company SEO is the work that gets a cleaning business found on Google — in the map results, the ordinary results and AI answers — by the households, landlords and businesses you want as customers. It covers your Google Business Profile, a page for each service, area pages with real substance, structured data that says what you are and carries your registration, your business name and proof details shown consistently, prices people can find, and a steady flow of genuine reviews.

The top pages on SEO for cleaning companies cover the map pack, NAP consistency, service and city pages, blog content, backlinks, speed and AI search. Those are the foundations. What none of them deal with is that cleaning is bought on proof — insurance, vetting, registration — that the rules on prices, guarantees and green claims reach your pages, that move-out, end-of-tenancy and bond searches work differently from regular cleaning, and that the words people search with change from country to country. For the trade-wide basics — area pages that are not doorway pages, seasonal planning and the review routine — see SEO for contractors. This page is about what is specific to cleaning.

Keywords

Which searches bring cleaning customers?

Cleaning searches split by service, frequency, property type and country. A weekly house clean and an office contract target different people, so a good plan starts with the searches closest to the work you want.
Search typeExampleWhat wins it
Local and recurringhouse cleaning near me, cleaners [town], maid service [city]A complete profile, real service areas, a price path and the same-cleaner promise
One-off and deepdeep cleaning [town], spring clean, after-builders cleanA page per service with a checklist, typical hours and a from-price
Moving outmove-out cleaning (US, CA); end of tenancy cleaning (UK); bond cleaning, end of lease cleaning (AU)A page matched to the inspection, with the re-clean terms, key pickup and lead times
Commercialoffice cleaning [city], janitorial services, commercial cleaning contract, strata cleaning (AU)Sector pages, walkthrough booking and the documents business clients ask for
Specialistcarpet cleaning, oven cleaning, window cleaning, Airbnb turnover cleaningSeparate pages only for services you really offer, with prices
Country wordsmaid service (US); domestic cleaner (UK); entretien ménager (Québec); bond clean, vacate clean (AU)Pages written in the words and spellings used where you work
Service pages

Why are service pages a cleaning company’s best SEO asset?

Because they match the way people search. Someone handing back keys on Friday searches for end of tenancy or bond cleaning, not for “cleaning services”. A page for each service — with the checklist, typical hours, a from-price, the guarantee terms and real photos — answers that search and proves you do the work. Only a minority of the sites we reviewed showed any price at all.

House cleaning SEO and janitorial SEO also need different pages. Residential pages sell the price, the person and the booking; commercial pages sell the walkthrough, the schedule and the paperwork. We plan both around the work you want, and use your real jobs and lead times to give area pages substance, which keeps them from being doorway pages.

Proof details

Why should a cleaning company’s registration and insurance match everywhere?

Because customers check them, business clients ask for them, and search engines compare them. In the UK your company number and registered office belong on your website by law; in Australia your 11-digit ABN does the same job; in the US it is the business licence or registration your state or city issues. In our review only 2 of 59 US sites showed a licence or registration number, 12 of 59 UK sites a company number and about 19 of 81 Australian home pages an ABN — so getting this right is an easy way to stand out.

We put the same business name and numbers on your website, in your structured data, on your Google Business Profile and on the directories you use, with the insurance amount and vetting method stated the same way everywhere. In Canada we add the workers’ comp board you are registered with — only 11 of 55 sites named theirs — and in Victoria the Labour Hire Authority licence for commercial work.

Google Business Profile

How should a cleaning company set up its Google Business Profile?

Following Google’s guidelines, which catch cleaning firms out in three places. The name must be your real business name — adding “Cleaners Leeds” or “Best Maid Service Dallas” breaks the rules and risks suspension. Most cleaners go to the customer and have no office where customers are received, so the address should be hidden and service areas listed instead. And a profile or near-identical website for every town where you have no real base is not a shortcut; it looks like lead generation rather than a local firm.

Choose the primary category that matches most of your work, such as house cleaning service or commercial cleaning service, and add secondary categories only for services you really offer. Post jobs and notices with real photos, so the profile looks active when people compare firms. For how far your service areas should reach, see SEO for contractors.

Commercial search

How does SEO work for commercial and janitorial cleaning?

Business clients search less often but check more. Your site has to rank for the sector and then answer the procurement questions without a phone call.
Sector pagesOffices, schools, medical, retail, strata and industrial — each with what you clean, how often and what the client receives.
Walkthrough firstA page that books a site visit or video walkthrough, then explains the written scope and schedule that follow.
Compliance packInsurance certificate, workers’ comp clearance (WSIB, WorkSafeBC, WCB, CNESST), waste carrier number (UK) and LHA licence (Victoria) — described, with how to request them.
Logs and reportsSample cleaning logs, how issues are reported and how quickly they are fixed — shown, not overpromised.
Property managers and agentsEnd-of-lease and turnover paths for agents and strata managers, with lead times and key handling.

Structured data

What structured data should a cleaning website use?

Schema.org has no cleaning company type, so we use LocalBusiness or HomeAndConstructionBusiness for home cleaning and fill in the details that make your firm checkable. The top-ranking cleaning company SEO pages we read named LocalBusiness or Service at most and said nothing about credentials. For other trades, see the table on SEO for contractors.
PropertyWhat it tells Google
@typeLocalBusiness or HomeAndConstructionBusiness, with a description that says cleaning
hasCredentialYour business licence or registration, LHA licence or other credential with the issuing body — the same number shown on the page
legalName and nameYour registered business name and your trading name if different
address and areaServedYour real office or service areas, matching your Google profile
knowsLanguageThe languages you work in, such as French in Québec or Spanish in many US cities
hasOfferCatalogThe cleans you offer, matching your service and price pages
review markupLeave it off your own business page: Google’s review snippet rules do not show stars for reviews a local business publishes about itself
Reviews and claims

What are the rules on cleaning company reviews and claims?

Ask every customer after the clean, never buy reviews, and never fake them — Google’s own policies prohibit incentives and fake engagement. In the US, the FTC’s rule on consumer reviews bans fake reviews, buying positive reviews and suppressing negative ones. In the UK, the CMA treats fake and concealed incentivised reviews as unlawful. In Canada, the Competition Bureau warns that reviews by staff or owners that hide the connection can breach the Competition Act. In Australia, the ACCC bans fake, suppressed and undisclosed-incentive reviews.

Claims follow the same logic. “#1”, “best in town” and “100% satisfaction” need evidence, and “non-toxic”, “chemical-free” and “100% eco-friendly” are risky under the FTC Green Guides, CAP Code section 11 and the Competition Act unless you can back them. Review counts and guarantee windows that disagree across a site, which we saw in all four countries, also undermine trust. We write specific, provable claims instead — years trading from your founding date, the guarantee with its terms, the certification with what it covers — and keep review figures sourced and dated.

FAQ

Questions we get asked

How long does cleaning company SEO take to work?
Profile and technical fixes can show within weeks; new service and area pages usually take a few months to build momentum, depending on competition where you work. Nobody can honestly guarantee rankings — the audit tells you where you start.
How much does SEO for a cleaning business cost?
It depends on how many areas and services you want to target and how competitive they are. We quote after the audit, so you know exactly what is included before you commit.
What is the difference between this and contractor SEO?
Our contractor SEO page covers what every home-service trade shares: area pages, seasons and schema by trade. Cleaning company SEO adds what cleaners need on top: service and move-out pages, proof details everywhere, price and guarantee wording, commercial search and country-specific wording.
Should we create a page for every town we cover?
Only for places you really work, with real jobs and lead times to show there. Pages that repeat the same text with a new town name are what Google calls doorway pages, and so are networks of near-identical city sites.
Do house cleaning SEO and janitorial SEO need different pages?
Yes. Households search by service and area and decide on price and trust; business clients search by sector and decide on scope, schedule and paperwork. We build separate paths so each page answers one kind of buyer.
Will cleaning company SEO help with AI search answers?
Yes. The same foundations — consistent business details, clear service and price pages and genuine reviews — are what AI assistants rely on. See AI search optimization.
Do we need a new website for cleaning company SEO?
Not always. If your current site is fast and easy to edit, we work with it. If it holds you back, see cleaning website design.
