- Licenses — Paid to Odoo, per user (Enterprise)
- Implementation — Workshops, setup, training
- Migration — Data cleaning and import
- Customization — Only where standard won’t do
- Hosting & support — Monthly, after go-live
What do you pay Odoo, and what do you pay a partner?
You pay Odoo S.A. for software licenses, and you pay your implementation partner for the work. They are separate bills, and it helps to keep them apart when comparing quotes.
- Odoo licenses. Odoo Community has no license fee. Odoo Enterprise is a subscription from Odoo, priced per internal user, and the plan you need depends on where you host it and which features you use. Our guide to Odoo pricing explains the editions and plans; always check Odoo’s own pricing page for current terms.
- Implementation work. Workshops, solution design, configuration, data migration, training and go-live support. This is where most of the variation between projects comes from.
- Custom development. Only where standard Odoo genuinely cannot do the job.
- Hosting and support. Monthly plans after go-live — unless you choose Odoo’s own cloud, where hosting is part of the Odoo subscription.
What makes an Odoo project bigger or smaller?
| Factor | Lower cost | Higher cost |
|---|---|---|
| Apps in phase one | A few core apps | Many apps at once |
| Companies & countries | One company | Several, with different taxes |
| Data | Clean, from one system | Messy, from several systems |
| Custom requirements | Standard processes | Unique workflows and integrations |
| Users & training | One location | Many teams and sites |
| Integrations | None, or one proven connector | Several systems, some custom |
| Decision speed | One owner, quick answers | Many approvers, slow sign-offs |
We quote a fixed price for the agreed scope after a discovery workshop, so you know the cost before you commit.
Which Odoo costs are one-off and which are recurring?
| Cost | One-off or recurring | Paid to |
|---|---|---|
| Enterprise licenses | Recurring subscription | Odoo S.A. |
| Discovery and solution design | One-off | Your implementation partner |
| Configuration, migration and training | One-off, per phase | Your implementation partner |
| Custom modules | One-off to build; ported at upgrades | Your developer |
| Hosting | Recurring | Your host, or Odoo if you use its cloud |
| Support and upgrades | Recurring plan, plus upgrade projects | Your support partner |
| Hardware (scanners, receipt printers) | One-off, if needed | Your supplier |
Which costs do businesses forget to budget for?
The software and the partner’s fee are the obvious costs. These are the ones that catch people out:
- Your own team’s time. Workshops, testing, data checks and training all need people who also have day jobs. Plan for it rather than squeezing it in.
- Data clean-up. Years of duplicates and inconsistent product names take effort to fix, whoever does it.
- Upgrades of custom code. Every custom module has to be ported when you move to a new Odoo version. Less custom code means cheaper upgrades.
- Integration upkeep. Stores, marketplaces and couriers change their interfaces, and integrations need maintaining.
- Hardware. Barcode scanners, label printers and point-of-sale equipment, if your warehouse or shop needs them.
How can you spend less and go live sooner?
- Start with a first phase. Go live with the core apps, then add more once the team is comfortable.
- Use standard Odoo where you can. Changing a process is often cheaper than customizing software.
- Clean your data early. Every duplicate fixed before migration saves time later.
- Name one decision-maker. A single project owner with authority shortens every sign-off.
- Answer quickly. Our 90-day guarantee pauses while we wait on decisions, so fast answers mean an earlier go-live.
Questions we get asked
Do you publish fixed packages?
Every business differs, so we quote after a short discovery. The quote is fixed for the agreed scope, and the go-live date is guaranteed.
Is Odoo Community free?
Yes, Community has no license fee. Enterprise adds apps and features and is licensed per user from Odoo. We help you choose in the blueprint — see Odoo Community vs Enterprise.
Why do quotes from different Odoo partners vary so much?
Usually because they are quoting different scopes. One quote may include data migration, training and go-live support; another may cover configuration only. Compare what is included line by line, and ask what happens when the estimate runs out.
Is a fixed price better than paying by the hour?
For a defined first phase, a fixed price gives you certainty and puts the risk of over-running on the partner. Time-based billing can suit open-ended work later. We quote implementations at a fixed price for the agreed scope.
Does customization make Odoo more expensive over time?
Yes. Custom code costs money to build and again at every upgrade, when it has to be ported. That is why we use standard Odoo first and customize only where it pays for itself.
Are hosting and support extra?
Yes, they are monthly plans after go-live. We include them in your proposal so the full picture is clear from the start.
What happens if the project runs late?
With us, the first phase we agree is guaranteed to go live within 90 days, or you get your money back as set out in your contract. The clock pauses only while we wait on information from you. See how the guarantee works.
