Dents on the gutters and vents
Soft metal dents first, so it's the best clue to stone size. Dented gutters don't always mean damaged shingles. Photograph them with a coin for scale.

Hail doesn't always leave a hole. We show you what a dent actually means, what to photograph before the adjuster comes, and what an honest claim looks like. No door-knocking, no "free roof".
Shingle damage usually starts around 1" (quarter size). Smaller stones mostly mark gutters, vents and screens.
Grab a hailstone and drop it anywhere on the shingle. Then switch to the impact-rated sample and drop the same stone again. The side card tells you what that mark usually means and what to photograph.
Drag it onto the shingle, or press it to drop it in the middle.
Pick a stone and drop it. Every mark here is illustrative: real damage depends on wind, angle, the age of the roof and the temperature that night.
Stay off the roof. Wet shingles after a storm are where falls happen.
Book an inspection reportDamage patterns are simplified illustrations for teaching, not a diagnosis. Only an on-roof inspection can say whether your roof was damaged.
Pick the one that sounds like your week. Each one tells you what to do first, and whether you need us yet.

Compare sizesSome loss is normal on a new roof. A sudden pile after a storm is worth a look, because granules are what shields the asphalt from Oklahoma sun.
Book a lookHail falls in streaks. The house next door can be hit and yours missed. A good inspector will tell you when there's nothing to claim.
How we decideHave your own photos and an independent inspection report ready. We can be on the roof with the adjuster to point out what we found. We don't negotiate your claim.
See the claim pathMove valuables, catch the drip and call the storm line. We tarp first and talk about repairs after. Sample tarp price is on this page.
Tarp pricesNobody gives roofs away. Ask for their state registration number, a local address and a written scope. Then get a second opinion.
Spot a storm chaserYou file the claim. Your insurer decides what's covered. Our job is to find the facts, write them down and fix the roof right.
Stay off the roof. From the ground, photograph gutters, screens, vents, the car and the date. Save a photo of stones next to a coin if you can.

Us · 1–2 days on most homesAn impact-rated shingle has passed a lab test where steel balls up to 2" are dropped on it without cracking through. It still marks, but it usually keeps the water out.
Some insurers offer a premium discount for impact-rated roofs. Ask yours for the number before you choose, and we'll give you the paperwork they need.

They told us our roof was fine after the May storm and showed us why. Two years later when it wasn't, we didn't call anyone else.
The report had chalk circles and a photo of every slope. Our adjuster used it on the spot. Crew was gone by 4pm with the yard magneted.

Our own crew, no subcontracted tear-offsHale & Tinplate is a small Oklahoma City crew with a shop on the north side. We answer warranty calls ourselves, years after the trucks with out-of-state plates have left.
Workmanship warranty, in plain words: for 10 years after the final walk, if a leak or failure comes from how we installed your roof, we come back and fix it at no charge. It's in writing and transfers once if you sell. The shingle maker's warranty is separate and registered in your name.
A crew lead calls you back within one business day to set a time. We need a clear, dry day to walk the roof safely.

No. Your deductible is part of your contract with your insurer, and offering to pay, waive or rebate it is illegal in many states. Any roofer who offers is putting your claim at risk.
Ask for an Oklahoma CIB roofing registration number and check it, a local street address, proof of insurance and a written scope before you sign. Be wary of anyone who wants you to sign on the spot or hand over your insurance check.
It depends on your policy, and many set a time limit. Read your policy or call your agent soon after the storm. Our inspection report is dated, which helps either way.
