Consultation first.Always.

Every plan at Lumen & Lane starts with 45 minutes and a registered clinician, never a price list. We look at your skin layer by layer, explain what we see, and put the plan in writing for you to take home.

Layer 1 · the surface you see and touch

Surface

Texture, glow and how skin feels through the day. Much of this comes down to routine, sun habits and the products you already own.

Dull or tired lookRough textureTightnessDaily SPF habits

At consultation we look with magnification and a skin-analysis lamp, then go through your routine line by line. Sometimes the plan is simply to use less.

Layer 2 · thinner than a sheet of paper

Epidermis

Where new skin cells form and pigment is made. Tone, congestion and marks usually sit here.

Uneven tonePigment patchesCongestionPost-breakout marks
A patch that is new, growing or changing is checked by our consultant dermatologist first. That is the medical lane.
Layer 3 · collagen, vessels and follicles

Dermis

The support layer. Firmness, fine lines, redness and scarring live here, and so do many medical skin conditions.

Fine linesLoss of firmnessRedness and flushingScarring
Persistent redness, rashes or acne that scars are medical. We route them to dermatology or back to your GP, never to a treatment menu.
All three layers, side by side

Then the plan is written

Only once we understand which layer your concern lives in does anyone suggest a plan. It comes in writing, with costs, and you take it home.

  • Written plan: what we suggest, why, and what it costs.
  • Time to think: never treated on the day you first visit.
  • Medical first: anything that needs a diagnosis goes to dermatology.
Medical or cosmetic

Two lanes. You never have to guess which.

Tap a concern and watch where it goes. If you're not sure, book a consultation and we'll sort it for you; that's what it's for.

Not a prescriber

Doctors (GMC)

Can prescribe after seeing you in person. Our dermatologist leads anything that needs a diagnosis.

Nurse prescribers (NMC)

Registered nurses with an independent prescribing qualification, working within their own competence.

Skin therapists

Deliver non-medical skin treatments from a written plan. They never prescribe.

Prescription-only treatments are never sold as a menu item. They are only ever considered after a face-to-face consultation with a prescriber, and never on the same day.

Fees

One fee to start. Everything else in writing.

All prices are samples for this concept. Cosmetic fees include VAT; medical consultations are VAT exempt.
