What makes a paid trip legal, in plain English

Any boat taking paying guests to sea needs coding from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and a qualified skipper. Most charter sites never say. Here is ours, every number marked as a sample in this concept.

    The weather rule

If our skipper says no, you don't pay.

We look at the forecast with you the evening before, and make the call by 6pm (sample). If it's too windy, too foggy or the forecast is unsafe, you choose: a new date or every penny back. You never lose money to the weather.

    We call it

Full refund or a free move to any date this season. Your choice, no forms.

    Booking

A 25% deposit holds the date. The balance is due 14 days before you sail.

    You cancel early

More than 28 days out: full refund. 28 to 14 days: we keep the deposit unless we re-let the boat.

    Fewer turn up

The whole-boat price stays the same. Your share changes, never our total.

    Fair questions

The things people ask on the phone, answered once.

Do we need any sailing experience?

None. Your skipper runs the boat. If you'd like to helm or handle ropes, they'll show you how; if not, sit back.

    Can children come?

Yes, from age 5 with a parent or guardian aboard. We carry child lifejackets; tell us ages when you book. Children count towards the 12.

    Are dogs allowed?

Calm dogs are welcome on half-day sails at no charge. Bring a dog lifejacket or borrow one of ours.

    What should we bring?

Soft-soled shoes, a warm layer, sun cream and your own food and drink. We supply lifejackets and waterproofs.

    Can we bring alcohol?

Yes, in moderation. The skipper may stop drinking aboard if anyone is unsafe; nobody who has been drinking helms the boat.

What if there are more than 12 of us?

Our coding allows 12 passengers and we can't go over it. For bigger groups we book a second coded boat from a partner, sailing alongside us.
